on some immense pride
Nearing the end of the 21 Gun Presidential Salute, we heard the helicopters from the distance. The band started the national anthem, and in one reflex action, EVERYBODY was on their feet.
I love my anthem. Yesterday, for the first time, I sang it with thousands of Singapore citizens. It was enthusiastic and it was sincere, joyful yet solemn. Hung from the helicopter, my national flag in all it's majesty, graced the crowd with it's presence. It went on to bring a little bit of the Parade to all Singaporeans who would but only look out of their windows and into the skies.
For the millions of us, we were united in those moments.
And this was just rehearsals.
