work woes

I was just blaming my lack-of-inspiration on the mundane things in life, and it's all been work! Oh yah... I never put it for the record on this blog. Dear Diary, on 21st May 2007, I became a mechanical engineer.

Now back to the mundane things in life...
Work's not that mundane. Really. Over the past 10 months, it has become crazily busy, and recently, just painfully dull. Either way, there's always the people around to spice it all up. In my stay there, I've made friends, seen heaps of drama, heard gossip, lived politics (heck it seems I've been caught right in the middle of a huge war)... it's all there! Oh well, work's work huh.

I think I speak for a many of my colleagues, and lotsa other people -
What is it with work that we wake up before our body clocks are ready to, go through that morning shower/breakfast routine, commute to work, walk into the office to spend every sun-shining moment... It's like spending more time in that office space that we do awake-hours at home!! In a denser space at that (all the authority regulations and heat-load calculations seem to suggest that offices are squatters when compared with our dwelling areas... everything has to be super sized)

So yes, that makes our colleagues are really important cos they make the day so much different. So why is it that some weirdo queerdos like to make life so difficult of each other knowing full well that they've gotta breathe the carbon doxide that their archenemy exhaled...? Why don't we just all smile genuinely, talk nicely, try to be human in relating to one another...?

Whoops got carried away bitching that I digress.

Now back to the point - work is so mundane. But what work isn't really?
It's that TQM concept, that Macdonalds concept... I forgot what it's called la... But it's that thing about simplifying jobs to simple tasks so that they can be performed by anybody. Apparently we'd be more efficient in our tasks if we concentrate on only one small thing. Then it's also supposed to become a HR problem, because then there's that Maslow dude saying that we need some new challenges now and then.

After regurgitating all that, all I'm really trying to conclude is that in theory, all work is menial and mundane, and we'll soon get sick of it if we things don't move along.

Actually I haven't finished bitching! But this should be just about enough before I shrivel up into a sour prune of an aunty.

Don't worry, I'm not as jaded as I sound just yet.

Or am I...??
