Find it and you'll never work again

I was recently reminded of one of my favourite paragraphs that I've read. It's from the chapter 'The Right Job' from Winning, by Jack Welch.

'You endure the same gummy, time-consuming, up-and-down, iterative process that all working people go through. You take one job, discover what you like and don't like about it and what you're good and bad at, and then, in time, change jobs to get something else closer to the right fit. And you do that until one day you realize - hey, I'm finally in the right job. I like what I'm doing, and I'm making the trade-offs I'm willing to make.'

No brain surgery, just something we all know formally put down into words by a role model, and at least for me it suddenly became more real, credible, and encouraging.

So here's to all of us normal people, may our iterative process end soon!

The cool phone

The people around me seem to slowly join the cult of the charismatic iPhone.

People buy it just because everybody else seems to think it's cool. In owning the gadget, they rightfully strive to maximise its functions. They are put in the position to learn more about the phone and what it can do. Then they hear of the universe of applications that add convenience or entertainment to their lives. Those who were previously not so Internet-savvy start with getting friends to install the apps. They move on to hearing about apps and then independently installing them. We soon find them reading up on and independently installing their newfound discoveries. The result is increased confidence levels in using the Internet, which is really the start of the discovery of the entire virtual world.

The iPhone has indeed done it's part for Internet literacy.

Marathon while at work

Cold calling is like running a marathon. You just keep going, one step at a time, till you reach your goal.

Carnival

It was a Saturday afternoon. It was sunny, yet the sun did not scorch.

The square bustled with people, and the live Lambada could be heard distinctly.

Carnival was all in the air, although nobody noticed the guitarist at the very centre...

She smiled, and this is what she said -
'Felicia, I noticed you like the Tanjong Pagar muffins, I'm going there today do you want one?'
